HIPAA the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

health care fraudHow much does one really know about HIPAA? HIPAA or The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act was signed by Bill Clinton in 1996. HIPPA was originally sponcered by Senator Edward Kennedy. Title I HIPAA protects families and workers when they change or loose their jobs. Title II HIPAA protects against health care fraud and abuse. Doctors and pharmacies now have to provide paperwork to show that they are doing their best to protect patients privacy. HIPAA when put into full effect by a doctor or hospital is estimated to have them over $9 million a year in fraud charges. All doctors, health clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, and any where patients health documents are found have to comply with HIPAA regulations. There are strong penalties for healthcare workers that are found in violation of the HIPAA regulations, which can include heavy fines and or jail time. It is nice knowing that you medical records are protected.
